September 17, 2002

Location: The Nations Capitol Bass Federation Executive Board met in Krupin’s Restaurant at 4620 Wisconsin Ave. N.W., Washington, D.C., 20016.

Three of the Board members were present.

Call To Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM.

Roll Call: Alan Mullis, Chuck Walker, and Larry Yates.

Treasurer’s Report: Keith Wright (Treasurer) was not able to attend but filed the following report with Alan. Keith reported an income of $22,065 with expenses totaling $18,204, for a net balance of $3,861. This does not reflect the money that just came in from Galyans.

NEW BUSINESS:

Galyans Fall Extravaganza: NCBF hosted the fall fishing and hunting show at the Fair Lakes store on September 7th and 8th. Virginia Bass Federation was there to hold the CastingKids event. Several members of NCBF lined up sports guides to give seminars in the store for two days. Each event was publicized by us and by the store. We needed the help of those that can teach a sport, i.e., fishing, archery, golf, kayaking, etc. For our help getting customers in the store, Gaylans is and will remain our sponsor. A follow up meeting is planned with Galyan’s.

Tournament Committee: The work to complete the NCBF’s final 2002 tournament, scheduled for October 13th, included getting the park permit, securing a Bond, plaques and arrangements to use the parking lot at the ramp. All standings will be posted to include the winners of end-of-year prizes. The site setup team has been selected and will only fish to assure that all boaters have a partner. The Secretary sent an application for the tournament to all members with the by-law Amendment and Ballot package.

Members: (Secretary) Chuck Walker has reviewed the current roster and reported the status of each member for compliance to the by-laws. A special meeting was held on September 10, 2002 to address the review and to plan better involvement of current and future members. Those in attendance were Bo Curry, Alan Mullis, Keith Wright, Chuck Walker, Brian Lancaster, and Kevin Miller. Some of the discussion items were the role of parents of youth members, their adult dues, and penalties for full members that do not have the time to attend or work NCBF projects.

Youth: (Youth Chairperson), Debbie Muth has set a meeting with the Metropolitan Police Boys and Girls Club on September 23, 2002 at 2:00 PM. Debbie will began processing their youth club B.A.S.S. packages. It is estimated there will be over 200 kids from this group. NCBF may have to pay some or all of the $5 dues to B.A.S.S.

Tournament Equipment: The investigation of purchasing an NCBF trailer and its costs resulted in a recommendation to wait until the NCBF’s treasury receives the check from Galyans.

Remaining Projects: (1) Anacostia Park Ramp cleanup on September 22nd, the kids outing on September 29th; and (3) Senior Citizens Tournament on October 5th.

Sponsors: Letters of thanks will be prepared to all our sponsors.

Web Site: Alan has been working to catch up on the upgrades to the site. B.A.S.S. has now placed a link to the NCBF on their web site. The pictures of the NCBF clothing line has been posted on the web site. The pictures of the July cookout, and the Gaylans September event are now posted.

By Laws: The NCBF have been reviewing the by-laws for 2003 to make changes and possibly add items to address the parents of our youth and participation rules for members. Larry Yates submitted the recommended changes for review. The changes were approved and mailed to all members for final approval.

OLD BUSINESS:

Washington Boat Show: Brian Lancaster has put us in touch with Bill Jennings to try to acquire a free space at the annual show. Brian has given the NCBF an information package for us to complete with an application. Alan has completed and forwarded. The NCBF is waiting for notification as to whether we get invited or not.

Fund Raiser Raffle: Ken Penrod of Outdoor Life gave the NCBF a Lowrance 15 CT to use as a fundraiser. Several method of how to use the unit as a fundraiser was discussed. The NCBF can sell raffles until Presidents conference in December 2002 or list on website for a set sales price or with permission from Ken to place on E Bay.

Letterhead Paper and Envelops: Keith Wright and Kevin Miller will investigate the cost of 1000 front pages and 500-second pages of paper. This order is to include 1000 envelops with the logo and Chuck Walker’s address. This matter was put on hold because of the cost and the upcoming elections. The elections will change the makeup of the letterhead.

B.A.S.S.: The Executive Board was asked to develop a single info/fact sheet describing the NCBF and its Operations Officers. Alan Mullis, Bo Curry, Chuck Walker and Larry Yates have submitted their bios. Keith Wright has taken individual photos of the executive board and the launch committee members. Chuck Walker will collect short bios on each to accompany each photo. It is hoped when B.A.S.S. is ready to publish the NCBF, they will do it in grand style. Al Smith said Craig Lamb would be in contact with Alan soon to do a story on NCBF and it would be published in Bass Times.

Next Executive Board Meeting: The next Board meeting is scheduled on September 17, 2002.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM.
