NCBF EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING MINUTES 

February 17, 2004

 

Location: The Nations Capitol Bass Federation Executive Board meeting was held at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Germantown , MD. This meeting is held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.

  Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm .

  Roll Call:  Board members in attendance: Chuck Walker, Bo Curry, Danny Shanz, Chuck Hartzman. Other members attending were Tim Cameron, Dave Hamrick, Scott Peterson, Larry Dodd, Larry Yates, Wayne Wininger, Greg Dice, Alan Mullis, Bing Bengston. Total in attendance- 14 (unable to read one signature)

  Treasurer’s Report:  Jim Kline was not present however he reported the following information- the balance from January is unchanged. The checking account has been changed to the Chevy Chase Bank (effective Feb. 2nd) and both Jim Kline and Chuck Walker have signature authority. Keith Wright can transfer part of the old account to the new bank.

Old Business

Trout Pond:    The trout pond is scheduled to be constructed on 28 Feb 2004 at the Woodsboro plant around 9:00 am .

Tournaments: Bo Curry (Tournament Director) reports that the tournament trail is set and posted on the website. The 1st NCBF tournament for 2004 is fast approaching and a launch site needs to be finalized (either Ft. Washington or Ft. Smallwood ). TBD in the next few days. Once a launch site is finalized it will be posted on the website. The deadline for the 1st tournament is set for 12 March 2004 which is also the date of the tournament draw to be held at Galyan’s @ 7:00 pm . The information is posted on the website.

  Washington Boat Show:  Thursday, February 13th thru Monday, February 17 (President’s Day).  Bill Jennings mailed a contract and it has been signed. We will have booth #472 near Mare, Inc. Wayne Ball, Cedric Simon and Arvelt Cook will provide a VCR for use to show bass fishing tapes. Chuck Walker will deliver and pickup a table for the show, along with a table skirt and the NCBF banner (from Alan Mullis). A list of volunteers manning the booth during the show has been made.

Ranger Contract:  The Ranger Contract has been signed and returned for processing.

Spectrum Corporation (Yamaha Motor Corporation):  This contract has been signed.

Penzoil Contract:  This contract has been signed.

Zebco Contract: This contract has been signed.

New Business

Boy Scout Troop: Richard Branscome, one of the Upper Montgomery County Boy Scout Troop leaders requested through Larry Yates a meeting to work out plans to hold a fishing derby on Saturday, 22 May 2004 at the Black Hill Regional Park . The meeting was held on 20 January 2004 and both Chuck Walker and Larry Yates attended. Volunteers so far are Larry Yates, Wayne Wininger, Scott Peterson and Chuck Hartzman.

Battle Creek Cypress Nature Center :  Saturday/Sunday 24 & 25 July or Saturday/Sunday 31 July & 1 August. Approximately 14 kids for a day of fishing on the river. The board will discuss further.

Events Roster:

Galyan’s Sports Fishing Show- February 13th, 14th, 15th at the Fair Lakes , VA store. Mac MacManus did a seminar on the 13th.

State Casting Kids Contest- Jim Kline will coordinate with Debbie Muth. The event will be held at the Police Academy on Saturday 6 March 2004 @ 11:00 am .

Boat Show- February 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st and the 22nd.

Boy Scouts Fishing Derby - Black Hills Regional park Saturday, 22 May 2004

NCBF Tournament Schedule- 28 March, 16 May, 20 June, 15 August, and 2 October (Open Team Tournament).

New Members: Discussed a campaign to get old members back. Also talked about advertising in public places like Safeway, Galyan’s, etc. Check into forming clubs within the federation (Ranger club, Triton club, Adult/Youth clubs, etc.). Also encourage our spouses to become members (Associate Members).

Website Changes: We need to have changes made to the website. Changes to be made are re-arrange the Officer’s names, titles, phone numbers on separate lines. Conservation dates need to be removed from the articles. The Youth section needs pictures added to show what our youth are involved in.

The following additional changes also need to be made:  update the “Events” section and change to the “Schedule of Events” , “Resources” section changed to “Fisherman Resources”. We need to ensure that all the links on the website are working properly. Under the Apparel section we need to add a picture of the logo on the back of a shirt or jacket, and also add Becky’s email address and move the order information to the top of the page. Chapter Awards section needs to be updated completely.

State Castingkids Contest: The NCBF board needs to hold a state Castingkids contest between 2 January and 15 March. Jim Kline will work with Debbie Muth to get this underway. Scheduled for 6 March 2004 @ 11:00 am at the Police Academy .

Jr. Grand Nationals: The dates for the Jr. Grand Nationals are 23-25 April 2004 in Tulsa , OK .

Grand Nationals: The Grand Nationals will be held in Tulsa , OK from 19-24 April 2004. Danny Shanz, Chuck Walker and Jim Kline will be attending. Good luck Danny! Also attending will be Alan Mullis to receive the awards from BASS.

Budget: The proposed budget for 2004 has been prepared and presented for review at the February meeting.

2004 Calendar: Larry Yates has agreed to continue producing and updating the NCBF Calendar. Please keep Larry informed if you become aware of events that should be on the calendar or events impacting NCBF scheduled events. His email is lyates@trucking.org.

Next Meeting: The next regularly scheduled NCBF Executive Board meeting is scheduled for 16 March 2004 @ 7:00 pm at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Germantown , MD.
