NCBF Membership Meeting

(Open To All Members)

Tuesday August 16, 2005 - 7 PM

Location: The Nations Capitol Bass Federation (NCBF) meeting was held at the Trinity United Methodist Church . The Church is located at the corner of Germantown Road and Clopper Road in Germantown , Maryland .

Call to Order:  The meeting was called to order at 7:15 PM .

Roll Call:  Executive Board members and others in attendance: Chuck Walker, Tim Cameron, Greg Dice and Jim Niffenegger. Bo Curry was called via cell phone to discuss new projects on the agenda.

Treasurer’s Report: The report was not available.

Old Business

Bass Federation Insurance: During the 2005 Classic meeting of Presidents in Pittsburgh , the BASS Insurance policy(s) were discussed. One contains an Accident/Dismemberment 24/7 benefit of $9000.  The separate Third Party policy is general liability and is strictly for Federation members at events that do not have a cover charge or entry fee (tournaments are covered). ALL volunteers (non members only) must sign a waiver if they work for the NCBF as a volunteer. The NCBF and other Federations will have to purchase additional insurance to cover over and above the BASS coverage. This coverage is a type of legal defense cost for our Federation.

IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID YOUR DUES to the Federation AND /OR have not joined BASS, YOU ARE NOT COVERED. Failure to join BASS will not allow you to be on the State Team. Both must be paid to be covered.

Member Boat Insurance: BASS has required all of their tournament boaters to increase the Liability limits on their Boat Insurance Policies from $100,000 to $300,000. It is recommended NCBF members do the same.

Life Vest Issues: BASS requires Type 4 life jackets (like the Suspenders) be worn at all times while in a boat verses the Type 3 (standard fishing type life jacket) which can be removed when the combustion engine is not running. In addition to keeping the Type 4 on at all times, BASS requires a boater to have a Type 3 life jacket on board the vessel in the event that the Type 4 fails to operate.

Maryland Bass Federation: Jim Kline, our Treasurer, has volunteered to become Director of the Maryland Youth Program.  He will remain the NCBF Treasurer. This effort by Jim is a really good thing because there are no state borders for any kid wanting to fish. Hopefully, Jim and Debbie can get a little friendly competition going to prepare our kids for the Jr. World Classic in Orlando in February. (Deadline October 1, 2005 ).

New Business

2005 Participation Roster: At the suggestion of our members, Chuck Hartzman has developed a roster of participating members to be posted on the website. The purpose is to allow a member to see if they have completed their required volunteerism to remain in good standing. We all are required to do 2 projects, 2 tournaments (for the state team), and 1 membership meeting annually. That roster has been completed and will be posted later this month.

Tim Cameron has developed the 2005 State Team standings as of Sunday, August 14th. The two sets of records will be merged to establish a final State Team before the December Executive Board meeting. The standings will be upgraded after each NCBF event, i.e., meetings, projects and the Open Tournament on October 1st.

New Projects: The Board approved three new projects for 2005. The approval votes were by Tim Cameron, Bo Curry and Chuck Walker.

1.      August 20th. 9 AM to Noon . The Murch Elementary School needs volunteers to assist kids at a fishing derby on the Tidal Basin on the Mall. (Project).

Shirts for State Team: All former State Team members that are on the 2004 Team will use their shirts and have Becky Sisson update them and new team members shirts have been ordered. The NCBF will pay for the new member shirts and the updating of the old ones. The State team needs to call Chuck to set up a meeting ASAP.

Washington Boat Show: The Boat Show Coordinator has been notified the NCBF will not participate in 2006. This show is definitely not a bass boat/fisherman show. We greeted a lot of the visitors to the show over the two year period, but no new members came out of it.

NCBF Website:  The website is currently being maintained and updated by Alan Mullis.
