Our mission was to teach tying fishing knots, use of three styles of reels and casting, catching and safely landing, unhooking and proper treatment of each fish caught. All scout members caught fish and returned them to the water, ate hotdogs and hamburgers and received awards at the park. Shelly Bowling and Nate Bennett, Jr. NCBF members demonstrated CastingKids techniques to the Troop.

New Business

Letter to All Members: All members receive a letter from the President addressing the current calendar of events. Other items discussed were the remaining schedule, state team, 2005 state team compliance rules, remaining projects, and general issues. Chuck Hartzman has provided a summary of participants and their participation so far in 2004.

Hats and Wearing Apparel:

1.      Becky Sisson has received 100 NCBF hats, plus shirts and hats for the 2004 State Team. She suggests we stock shirts for purchase as a cost savings method for new and old members. Currently, it takes weeks to get shirts because we order one at a time.

2.      Becky received and delivered the shirts for the Jr. State Team. Chuck Walker presented the shirts to the team in Burlington , Vermont .

Jr. Eastern Divisional – Vermont : Four of our NCBF kids fished in the Eastern Division contest in Vermont from July 8th and return on the 10th. Keith Wright and Ricky Gum trailed their boats to provide the kids with boat captains. Two of our kids could not make the trip so the Divisional Representative asked if the NCBF would allow two out of state kid’s to fish with our team and we granted permission. The Virginia Bass Federation provided one more captain to fill the requirement of three boats for six kids. The team came in tenth out of fourteen states. Special thanks go the Bowling and Bennett families for taking the kids to Vermont .

Montgomery Fair Trout Pond. We have been invited to set up the trout pond at the County Fair in August. Bo Curry will post a schedule on the website www.fishncbf.com outlining the hours the membership must cover to make this effort work. The agricultural/craft fair will open on Friday August 13th through August 22nd, 10 AM to 11 PM. We will need two shifts on weekdays and three on the weekend. Check it out and call him for a slot at 301-798-0595. This fund raising effort will not work unless we cover all shifts. It is required by the County Fair committee. The list is open until July 25th. (Project)

Website: Please contact Chuck at 301-977-5282 to assist in rebuilding the NCBF website. It is time to upgrade the site to accommodate all the events we are involved in. The site continues to be visited by many from across the country to see what we are up to and to get ideas on projects they can start. It should be a one time fix and is a valuable (Project) for a member.

2005 Executive Board: Each member should begin looking at the opportunity to step forward if you are interested in being on the 2005 Executive Board. The election process will begin in September and I welcome all inquiries into how you can participate. As an example, Tim Hartzell has volunteered to assist Ken Penrod as Conservation Director. Tim is retire from the Interior Department and has started a home-based consulting business.
